the long and winding post

This gorgeous amaryllis bulb is blooming in my mom's kitchen. Watching the progression of it every day (each shot = one day; last shot = today) has been the sole spring-like highlight of otherwise unspringlike weather. It has been in the 60s and 70s in Saint Louis; 30s and wet here. Melting snow, mucky mud, bare trees and gray gray gray gray skies everywhere. Remind me consistently to have a spring break coin jar throughout the year, so that I can go somewhere else. As much as I love Michigan, February and March are probably the least tolerable months of the year. It makes me so lethargic - yesterday my brother and sister in law spent about 5 hours straight watching Lost, and I spent about 5 hours watching a Harry Potter marathon on abc family. On the bright side, I reconfirmed that Goblet of Fire is my least favorite plot, and Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire are my least favorite movies. I love Order of the Phoenix a lot more than I remember. Blahhhhh.

  1. Hah, I got sucked into that marathon, too. Spring in Wisconsin has very little to recommend it, either, and I've been spending a lot of time on my couch. Funny, I was surprised to find that I like Goblet of Fire more than I remembered. I didn't make it to Order of the Phoenix, but I did record it on DVR... maybe I should just suck it up and buy the dvd.

  2. I've been in Michigan in March the past 3 spring breaks, and I think the weather this year is the worst. It doesn't help that everyone from Prin goes to Florida - not that I want to vacation amongst Prin people. I just can't wait for part 2 of Deathly Hallows - I think I'll buy all the dvds after it comes out.

  3. Michelle, I miss you. You are so darn interesting. The idea to photograph that amaryllis bulb every day is a precious one.
As for February and March in Michigan -- my freshmen at MSU year, by February, I was sure winter was almost over. I went to Meijer and bought myself a bowl decorated with palm trees because it looked summery, and me think of warmth and beaches and bathing suits and sunscreen. Then it stayed cold for a long, long time... BUT, every year when Valentine's Day merchandise started to appear in stores, I still felt like spring was just around the corner.
