so much to say

So many fun things happening. My mom was here for a 5 day visit and brought me this beautiful hand crocheted afghan for my birthday.

I love it. My mom also put together a new bookshelf for me, bought me a kitchen cart, and totally reorganized my kitchen. I also had some antique mirrors hung by my apartment maintenance peeps (they were so heavy, I didn't have the hardware to do it myself). And I finally did my mini-gallery wall with Ikea frames that my mom brought me. Many posts to come....including a little photo shoot with my sisters in law.

I need more dresses like this. Why am I still stuck on summer clothes when fall is in full swing?

I keep forgetting to wind my Diana after each shot. About half the roll came out. I'm shooting for 3/4 next time.

autumn days

Lazy Saturday. The next three weekends will be packed, so I'm relishing this now. Drove into the city to visit Val and go to 2 farmer's markets. I took a whole roll of film on my Diana - we'll see how they turn out. Stay tuned. Tomorrow: fall foliage shoot with Mer in Forest Park.

Loving my new cardigan. Old Navy, of all places. I just want to live in it.

So I really don't want a big wedding. After becoming somewhat of a wedding expert this year through attending many weddings, I've determined that a small ceremony on a tropical beach somewhere is the way to go for me. Just family, I show up wearing something white, a luxurious hotel feeds us, and I enjoy my honeymoon. No details, no hassles, no drama.
BUT. if..........I decide differently, I pretty much want to copy this wedding. Every single detail.

celebrate

(weheartit)

A good friend recently told me about her birthday celebration this year (she lives in another city, so sadly I couldn't join her) She and some friends divided up into teams and had a dessert scavenger hunt. totally beyond. They had an hour and a half to run around Washington DC and get desserts in 5 different categories: something blue, most decadent, something with the birthday girl's initials, most creative, and.....something else that I'm forgetting. Then they had 3 friends who couldn't come until later act as judges for taste, innovation, and best overall.

I need to make this activity part of my life. Like on a weekly basis.

blogging 101

Apparently I just blogged my 101st post. I wasn't sure where this blog would go when I started it, but I really love it. It's fun to look back through the posts, and I know some of my close friends can read it and stay updated on my life. It's definitely the most creative journal I've ever had, although I admit I don't put my most personal, innermost thoughts here as I would in a written journal.
I just finished my first real week of school. All I want to do this weekend is sleep and sleep. Which is exactly what I'm going to do, although I throwing a little fun in: boot shopping with my friend, and lunch with my brothers. I need to take some pictures soon too. I haven't picked up my camera for weeks.
I miss summer.

can I get some boots

I need a fierce pair of fall boots. These are a few that some friends suggested via my desparate facebook status. I sort of want a combination of all of them - something a littly funky, with a little slouch and possibly a little heel. I already have faux-leather black boots with a pointy heel for dressier stuff. These need to be more everyday.

(via iTunes)
This post is somewhat belated. Clearly summer is over and this movie has been out for a couple months. But I just recently saw it. I don't buy a lot of music anymore, but the soundtrack is a must. It has made my car rides and self-singalongs much more epic lately.

happy September

September and October are two of my favorite months. As a teacher, I love the back to school feel (although it can be daunting) and I love fall colors, football season, Halloween decor, and chilly, sunny days. Thanks to Jackie for reminding me about freshly sharpened pencil bouquets too :-)
That being said, I'm going to take a little blog/flickr break for several weeks. The start of school is so busy, and I also have an important extended "workshop" that I need to put a lot of effort towards, so I think it's best just to unplug for a while. Over the summer I did this a bit...while I blogged more and really enjoyed that, I spent a lot less time on facebook/email/other stuff, and I found that I really didn't miss it all that much. Balance is key. So enjoy the first few weeks of fall! Nos vemos pronto!

nine dollars and fifty cents, my friends. for these three awesome bracelets. apparently estate sales cut a lot of prices on sundays. these were all half off. I would have paid full price for probably two of them, but had to get the third when I found out they were half off. A lovely little gift for myself to celebrate the start of school tomorrow.

last call

It's a cruel season that makes you get ready for bed while it's light out. ~Bill Watterson
3 non-school nights left. yes, even as a teacher, you still count things like that.
melissa got her wedding photos back. they are gorgeous. this one of me was snapped when we were getting ready.

august.

Today I am grateful. It is usually in the 90s and humid in St. Louis in August. This weekend it has been in the 70s, with no humidity. Blue skies with white cotton candy clouds that almost make you weep, they're so pretty. It makes the transition of coming back easier.

I went to Barnes&Noble and bought 5 magazines, something I rarely indulge in. 2 travel magazines, 1 home decor, 1 photography, and 1 current events/politics. I couldn't quite justify the new fall Vogue.

My summer is ending soon. I have to leave this.

Unrelated: I'm getting sick of all the images on we heart it. Newsflash: pictures of young women glaring into the camera with a cigarette and "vintage" clothes that are really just recycled from the 90s are not that original. Smoking does not make you look edgy, or fashionable, or like you don't care. It makes you look like you're trying too hard.

Hey You Guys!!!

Last night I went to see The Goonies on an outdoor screen in the park at our town's film festival. It was so fun. Lots of little kids dressed up like pirates, which was awesome.
Some adults dressed up too. Not quite as awesome.

So pretty watching the sun set over the lake while we waited

Yes there was a "pirate schooner"

seriously one of the best movies ever. and I notice more funny, subtle parts now that I'm older.

"When I was in 3rd grade I cheated on my math test. When I was in fourth grade I stole my uncle's toupee and put it on my face...."

fin. it's raining and chilly AGAIN today. what a summer.
